The R23 from Standerton to Volkrust has about 20km of road still under construction on the Standerton side. A number of “stop-gos” are in place, with considerably long waiting times – in our case 40 minutes :(.
I reckon construction will only complete late this year, after which it’ll be a wonderful road.
Big flooding is expected in and around the Mababe/Khwai areas in the next few weeks . This is according to residents in the area.
Flood waters have already completely submerged the road on the old Mababe gate side already, and are now getting very close to the Mababe / Khwai main road. The water level is unusually high, especially for so early in the season. The flood water normally only arrives here around June / July.
The waters at Mohembo, adjacent to the Caprivi Strip, have already peaked but are still percolating through the Okavango pan handle and upper pan so haven’t reached peak levels further south.
Good water currently in around the Jao concession, Xigera and south of Abu.
